Different Drug Problem

My son sent me this a little while ago.  Not sure if he was trying to tell me something, or if it was the recent telephone conversation we had.  Anyway, I thought today it would be worthy of an blog entry...

Hope you can read it ok.

The Kind Hearted Scotsman!

You gotta love a Scotsman...

My wife and I walked past a swanky new restaurant last  night.

"Did you smell that food?" she asked.

"Incredible!"  I said.

Being the nice guy I am, I thought,  "What the heck, I'll treat her!"

So we walked past it again!

Another SENIOR Moment!

Several days ago as I left a meeting at our church, I desperately gave myself a personal TSA pat down. I was looking for my keys. They were not in my pockets. A quick search in the meeting room revealed nothing. Suddenly I realized, I must have left them in the car.

Frantically I headed for the parking lot. My wife, Diane, has scolded me many times for leaving the keys in the ignition. My theory is the ignition is the best place not to lose them. Her theory is that the car will be stolen.

As I burst through the doors of the church, I came to a terrifying conclusion. Her theory was right. The parking lot was empty. I immediately call the police. I gave them my location, confessed that I had left my keys in the car, and that it had been stolen.

Then I made the most difficult call of all, "Honey," I stammered. "I left my keys in the car, and it has been stolen." There was a period of silence. I thought the call had been dropped, but then I heard Diane's voice, "Ken," she barked, "I dropped you off!"

Now it was my time to be silent. Embarrassed, I said, "Well, come and get me."

Diane retorted, "I will, as soon as I convince this policeman I have not stolen your car!"

Destiny

Here's something with a little different twist...

Do you feel confused, lost, no sense of purpose, full of life questions?  Listen, a person, no matter how you got to where you are, can find your destiny on the very road you took to avoid it!

Think about that for awhile...

Friday The 13th

I drive a '92 Chevy half ton.  Yes, it's an old truck now, but very reliable.  Been driving it for about seven years, trouble free.  It's basically just our back up system.  My wife drives the '09 Malibu.

But today, for the first time ever, I turned the key to fire it up, and you guessed it... nothing, dead, not even a click.  Friday the 13th?

No, not for a second do I believe that nonsense. Just coincidence.

Friday the 13th is possibly 'the most widespread superstition' out there. There's no question about that.

In the US alone, it is estimated that $800 million to $900 million is lost in business every Friday the 13th, because of fears of the doomed day.  Some people and companies, just won't do business deals on that day.  Can you believe that?

But is there really a reason to be so uneasy or even fearful about something that might happen on a day that's technically just like any other? Of course not.   You can pick out any date on the calendar or any day in history and find some weird stuff that’s happened.

Many people think that Friday the 13th is either a good luck day or a day where people tend to have bad luck. It depends who you are but, nothing particular happens on Friday the 13th.

Today could have been Tuesday the 13th, and my truck still would not have started.  And does anybody even care?  I doubt it.

Anyway, don't be 'Afraid'... to have a nice day.

New Year, New Look

WOW!  It's 2012 already!  How time flies.  And it flies whether you're having fun or not, right?  Well for me... I'm always having fun.

Today I thought  a little change here, would be in order.  Nothing major. My new readers, of course won't know what I'm talking about.  But for all my 'millions' of previous blog readers, you will notice a little change in the background, of this blog.  Hope you like it.

That's about the only change I'm making this year, except I should mention that I just published my first book.  It's basically based on some of the stories from this blog.  And no, I don't expect to make a fortune from it, or that it will eventually end up on the bestseller list.

What I am doing though is this... I'm giving the proceeds from the sale of the book to the Kanjunji Orphanage Fund in Africa.

A friend of ours, went to Africa about five years and started the orphanage himself.  Through personal fundraisers, contributions, and much sweat, Gord and his wife Linda are completely sold out to this mission.  Just this past year, they sold their house, and they plan to move to Africa full time next year.  So I thought, this could be my way of giving to the cause.  It may not be much, but like Gord has often said, "A dollar will go a long way in Africa."

If you would like to contribute, simply click the 'Buy Now Lulu' icon at the upper right of this page, make your purchase, and be blessed.  Or contact me at, shawnh54@gmail.com and I'll personally send you a copy.

Let's make 2012 a year to remember!  And have FUN doing it...

Newfie Explanation Of English!

One of my clients just today actually, sent me the
following...

...he must have known I needed a good laugh.

And I did, and I'm still laughing...

It's short and sweet...

Enjoy...

No English dictionary has been able to explain the
difference between the two words 'Complete' and
'Finished' in a way that's so easy to understand.

Some people say there is no difference between
COMPLETE & FINISHED but, there is an explanation,
as told by a Newfoundlander!!

Here it is...

When you marry the right one, you are COMPLETE...

And when you marry the wrong one, you are FINISHED...

And when the right one catches you with the wrong one,
you are ... COMPLETELY FINISHED!

Have a great day... and keep smiling.

"KISS" Fan Is My Nephew!

This was the headline of the YouTube video... Kiss Fan Get's Thumped Dawson Creek BC.

Matthew is a welder by trade.  And one of the best in the industry, I might add.  The most kind- hearted person, you'll ever meet.  A very hard worker,  but he also likes to play hard, during downtime.  Maybe a little to hard.   Matt is also my nephew.  (His mom is my wife's sister.)

Summer of 2011.  For Matt it'll be a summer that won't soon be forgotten... at least not by him.

He was working in the Dawson Creek, BC area at the time.  And had purchased tickets to the upcoming "KISS" concert for June 30.

As the evening of the greatly anticipated show finally begins and "KISS" is introduced, a good majority of the crowd are already, no doubt, somewhat intoxicated, and are more than ready for the 'night' of their lives.

About twenty minutes into the concert, with everyone in the building going wild, Matt has to take a quick washroom break.  Not!

As he headed in the direction of the washroom, he actually had to walk along the left side of the stage area, and toward the back.

Upon returning... he had a great idea.  With no security in site, he thought it would be a chance of a lifetime, to quickly run up on the stage, get a closer look at the 'boys' and exit, stage left, and maybe nobody would even notice.  Well, as it turned out, it was not a good idea.  (really Matt, what were you thinking?)

He had about twelve feet of black curtains that he had to peel his way through, before reaching the edge of the stage itself.  When finally there, he saw one security guy with headphones on and he appeared to be preoccupied with writing something in a notepad.  So he had no problem making his entrance from the back side of the stage.

Still unnoticed by any security people at this point, he edged his way closer to the singers. Than sprinted across the stage between the drummer and the group.   He remembers being wowed by the size of the boots they wear during the show.  And shocked at the massive crowd that are now all focusing in on him.  But it all ended there...

Out of, what appeared to be nowhere, he was pounced on by three security guys.  And literally dragged of the stage.   But not without some resistance.  With his two hands firmly gripping the edge of the stage, and the three of them trying desperately to get him out of there, he finally gave in, when one of his fingers were broken, in the shuffle.

This all happened within seconds, but not without getting the attention of the group as they continued to play, and looking to their right, to see what the commotion was all about.  One of the guitar players waved a "bye bye" to Matt, as he disappeared out of site of the stage area, but no one missed a beat.

The police were called immediately.  And Matt was soon escorted to the cruiser, by three uniformed officers.

While inside the car, and before they drive away, one of the officers looks at Matt and says, "So, hey man, lucky you... so what does Gene Simmons really look like up close, did you get a good look at him?"

They appeared to be a lot more interested in learning more about 'KISS' than they were in Matt.

After a few more questions, another officer finally asks, "Now, what are we gonna do with this guy?"

"I say we let him go" says another.

"Nope, we can't do that, we're gonna have to take him in... just won't look right if we let him go here."

Finally at the police station, Matt was stripped of his personal belongings and handed over to the prison guard on duty that night.

Being the social person, that Matt is, they both had a very long talk that night... him and the prison guard.  They covered just about everything, before it was time to lock him up... but only for one night.

Because Matt was found to be such a nice, decent, sensible person, the guard gave him an extra pillow, blanket, and some reading material for the night.  Something that was unheard off, by prison guards in that area.

The next morning Matt was released and free to go.  No charges were ever laid against him.

We all love you Matt!  But next time, plan your strategies a little more in advance...
